Artists Patrik Qvist and Robert Brecevic have been comissioned by the National Board of Sweden to make a kiosk game about moving an entire city (in this case Kiruna). It is premiered at the World Urban Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the 22:nd of March 2010.
Performing Pictures continues its collaboration with the artist Patrik Qvist. In this piece the artists have made a dual screen kiosk installation fitted in a suit-case shaped modul.
Twentyfive exquisitely designed pushbuttons in materials such as plaster, wood, silicon, metal e.t.c are part of an artistic aspiration to merge tangible and sculptural values with the etheric and cerebral expressions of screen based media.
It is a simple and straight-forward game which is set in a isometric view of a fictional Kiruna. The player chooses which categories of buildings to pick up and transfer to the new Kiruna. The first choices matter more then the last ones and the game interprets in a playful way what it means to act as a city planner, what consequences it has for the cityscape as such.
On the 19th of March Robert is going to Rio with the suitcase which is a bit heavy!
