Paper accepted for Digital Creativity

The upcoming issue of Digital Creativity features the paper "Disquiet in the Plasma" by Andrew Morrison,* Geska Helena Brečević,· Robert Brečević· & Synne Skjulstad** which discusses two works of Performing Pictures. The paper, which takes up the metaphor of plasma to present and discuss movement and engagement by participants in interactive video art installations, was carried out as part of "Guild for Reality Integrators and Generators", an EU-funded project into Mixed Reality Arts. The paper investigates two works involving full body video portraits exhibited through large plasma screens in a variety of public settings. Machinic mediations of video realism are taken up in terms of embodied interaction in which viewer-participants contribute to the ‘disquiet’ of gendered figuring.

Processural, proximal and personal aspects of responsive engagement are discussed. This is extended to performativity that may lead us to critical reflection of our own actions and responses in mixed reality arts.

Digital Creativity is a major peer-reviewed journal at the intersection of the creative arts and digital technologies. It carries articles of interest to those involved in the practical task of making or using software for creative purposes.
